The streets of New York City are ablaze with heat. While melting my way down Avenue A today in search of iced coffee, I came across a garbage can engulfed in flames. Other passersby seemed…unconcerned. Only in New York. What to do when your city has officially become a towering inferno? This image (courtesy of John Carpenter) sums it up quite well:


Escape from New York I did last weekend (although, sadly, young Kurt Russell was not involved). An easy four-hour bus ride North landed me in the center of blissfully temperate Boston, where I met my sister and nephew for a walk around town and trip to the aquarium. When we finally had enough of playing tourists, the three of us hopped a ferry to the South Shore town of Cohasset, where we spent the rest of the weekend eating lobster, baking blueberry pie, picking fresh produce at Holly…
